Lappeenranta Airport acquired by new company

At year-end, Lappeenranta Airport will transfer from Finavia’s ownership to the possession of the Province of South Karelia and the City of Lappeenranta.

Finavia, Saimaan lentoasema säätiö sr (the Saimaa Airport Foundation) and Lappeenrannan Lentoasema Oy have signed deeds of sale regarding Lappeenranta Airport property and its business operations.

According to the agreements, the Lappeenranta Airport property will be transferred to the Saimaa Airport Foundation. The business operations of the airport will be transferred to Lappeenrannan Lentoasema Oy on 1 January 2016.

In the transfer of business operations, the organisation of passenger services at the Lappeenranta Airport and the maintenance of the airport area, as well as commercial activities and development, will be transferred to the new company.

Finavia personnel working at the airport in the business operations being sold will transfer to the company as existing employees. The number of employees to be transferred is 13. Air traffic control work and air traffic controllers will not be part of the transfer of business; Finavia will be providing air navigation services in Lappeenranta on the basis of a commercial service agreement.

Lappeenranta Airport has no connections to other Finavia airports.
