The Government of Åland announced on 31 May 2018 that the air traffic operations between Mariehamn and Arlanda will be transferred to a new operator.

“We have received happy news regarding Mariehamn Airport today: flights to Stockholm will be continued soon,” says Tanja Sabel, Finavia’s Airport Manager at Mariehamn Airport.

The Government of Åland has agreed to transfer the rights and obligations of Nextjet, which went bankrupt a couple of weeks ago, to the Danish Air Transport A/S and Goldcup under the name Air Scandic.

According to the Government’s news release, the contract will be transferred to the new operator on 1 June 2018. Scheduled flights from Mariehamn to Arlanda are planned to begin on 11 June 2018.

In 2017, a little more than 61,500 passengers visited Mariehamn Airport (2016: +3.4%). In addition to Stockholm, regular flights to Helsinki and Turku are also included in the airport’s selection of routes.
