Finnair continues its strong growth in Asia. During the next summer season, as of 31 March 2019, Finnair will fly 41 weekly flights to Japan and 42 flights to China.

Finnair will add flights on its popular Asian routes from Helsinki Airport to Osaka, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Guangzhou for the 2019 summer season.

“We continue to execute our growth strategy, and the new additions further strengthen our offering in key Asian markets. Travel between Asia and Europe has been steadily growing in recent years, and we expect that trend to continue in the future,” says Juha Järvinen, Chief Commercial Officer at Finnair.

Finnair will increase its capacity to Japan by 15 per cent for next summer. Including flights operated in cooperation with Japan Airlines, Finnair will offer 41 weekly flights to Japan during the 2019 summer season. The company will add another daily flight to Osaka on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. During the upcoming summer season, flights to Osaka will be operated ten times a week. In addition, capacity is added on the Nagoya route by operating it with the A350 aircraft from 5 May onwards.

During the 2018 summer season, another daily flight was added to the Tokyo route, and Finnair will continue to offer two daily flights also during the summer season 2019. A third daily flight to Tokyo will be added for next spring during the Japanese Golden Week. Week 18 is a popular time to be on holiday in Japan since there are several national holidays within the same week.

Finnair will add capacity for its flights to China by 12 per cent compared to the summer season 2018, which means that the number of flights will increase to 42 weekly flights. Starting the next summer season, Finnair will operate the Airbus A350 twice a day to Hong Kong all year around. Furthermore, capacity is added on the Guangzhou route, which will also be operated using the A350 aircraft. During the 2019 summer season, Finnair will fly to Guangzhou four times a week.

“This really is good news because it further strengthens the position of Helsinki as the hub for air traffic between Europe and Asia. Furthermore, thanks to these frequency additions together with the new route launch to Los Angeles announced by Finnair earlier this August, long-distance connections from and to Finland will be further improved. It is great to be involved in developing the accessibility of Finland together with Finnair,” says a grateful Petri Vuori, VP Route Development at Finavia.
