Riipisen Riistaherkut, which sells fresh bread, beverages and food, is opening a café in the gate area of Kuusamo Airport on 1 June 2021. The café serves all departing air passengers all year round.

In addition to products made from local ingredients, the café also sells souvenirs and cosmetics from Lapland.

“We are extremely happy to be able to improve our service level with a new café and shop. I am particularly excited by the possibility of cooperating with a local actor. You can now both see and smell Riipisen Riistaherkut’s delicacies at Kuusamo Airport,” says Finavia’s Sari Päivärinta, Airport Manager at Kuusamo Airport.

Riipisen Riistaherkut’s story began with a small butcher’s shop in central Kuusamo in 1989. The first Riipisen Riistakahvila café and shop opened three years later in Ruka. In 2007, the first Riistakahvila café and souvenir shop was opened in Kuusamo, and the last one was opened more than a year ago in shopping centre Tripla in Helsinki. In 2015, the operations were expanded with the first food-processing plant that produces berry jellies, jams, syrups and sauces from clean and natural ingredients.

Mikael Riipinen from Riipisen Riistaherkut is also pleased to open a new café at Kuusamo Airport.

“We are excited for the opportunity to open a café that serves departing passengers. The majority of our selection consists of Finnish products or, rather, products from Kuusamo. We are delighted to be able to offer them to passengers visiting the Kuusamo area,” Riipinen says.

Most of the delicious fresh products are made at the café. The food products, such as meat, fish, jams and sauces, are primarily produced by Riipisen Riistaherkut. The selection is planned so that it will catch the interest of both domestic and international passengers. The shop also carries local handicrafts which are beautiful and unique souvenirs to take home. The selection also includes products from Riipisen Riistaherkut’s own distillery.

“Once passenger numbers rise from the current level, we can continue our plans to expand the food selection. We also look forward to launching our first Finnish Distillery products in the autumn,” Riipinen continues.
