A large number of passengers leave for their winter holidays via Finavia airports. The airports will be busiest from Thursday to Sunday, 15–18 February, and from Friday to Sunday, 23–25 February 2024.

The busiest travel times at Helsinki Airport are in the morning between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and in the afternoon between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. During the winter holidays, the airport will see the largest number of departing passengers on 15–18 February and arriving passengers on 24–25 February.

Rovaniemi and Kittilä airports will be busiest at weekends during the winter holidays. Read our tips for a smooth journey.

Prepare for your trip well in advance

Before you arrive at the airport, make sure that your baggage is packed properly. You can use Finavia’s search engine to check which items can be packed in hand baggage and which can go in checked baggage.

Flammable ski waxes and wax removers are not allowed at all on board an aircraft. Gases and lighter fluids for camping stoves are also prohibited. One piece of fire making equipment per passenger can packed in hand baggage or carried in the clothing worn by the passenger. Products such as power banks and backup batteries may only be carried in hand baggage.

Check the security control instructions in advance: Helsinki Airport and Finavia’s regional airports.

Subscribe to your flight’s information in Finavia’s MyFlight service. MyFlight will provide your gate number and recommendations for airport services. MyFlight is only available for passengers at Helsinki Airport.

Leave enough time for passing through the airport

Come to the airport well before your flight and leave enough time for parking, check-in and security control. At Helsinki Airport, there is a separate security control line for families with young children.

The best way to guarantee a parking space at Helsinki Airport is to book it in advance in the area of your choice. For example, the P3 building is suitable for long-term parking and is a short walk from the terminal.
