Air traffic at Finavia’s Lapland airports (Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Ivalo) is gradually returning to normal following winter storm Hannes. Individual flights may still experience delays or changes during Sunday and Monday.

Airlines are responsible for operating their own flights, arranging replacement flights, and communicating any changes directly to passengers. We kindly ask passengers to follow their airline’s or tour operators updates and check real-time flight information on Finavia’s website., where schedules are updated as airlines report changes.

Due to flights rescheduled from Saturday, Rovaniemi Airport will have more passengers than usual on Sunday, December 28, which will result in queues at various terminal services.

We thank passengers for their patience and understanding during these exceptional weather conditions.

Impact of winter storm Hannes on December 27

At Finavia’s airports in Ivalo, Kittilä, and Rovaniemi, air traffic restrictions and suspensions were in effect between 4:00 p.m. and 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, due to challenging weather conditions. Flight operations resumed at approximately 8:00 p.m. at Kittilä Airport, 9:00 p.m. at Ivalo Airport, and 10:40 p.m. at Rovaniemi Airport.

If aircraft cannot land at their original airport due to weather conditions, they are diverted to other airports or return to their point of departure. This also affects departing flights, causing delays to their schedules. Airlines may also cancel flights. Storm Hannes impacted numerous flights at Lapland airports.

Storm Hannes has not affected air traffic or operations at Finavia’s other airports.

In Southern Finland, strong winds occurred overnight, leading to temporary restrictions at Helsinki Airport. As there are fewer flights during nighttime hours, these restrictions did not have a significant impact on air traffic flow or passengers.

We will update this bulletin as necessary.
