In Finland, the EES border crossing information system, managed by the Finnish Border Guard, was introduced at Helsinki Airport on October 12, 2025. According to the Border Guard, EES will be implemented at Lapland airports gradually from early 2026.

The full-scale deployment has been preceded by a preparation phase aimed at enabling system testing and training border guards in new procedures. The goal of this phase has been to ensure the safety and smoothness of border checks.

We kindly ask passengers to pay attention to the instructions displayed at airports. These provide guidance on how travellers can help make border checks more efficient.

In addition, we encourage passengers to familiarize themselves with the EES system and its content before arriving at the airport. You can access the official EES website of the European Union here.

The introduction of the EES border crossing information system does not affect border checks for Finnish or other EU citizens.

Read more about the implementation of the EES system in the Border Guard’s announcement dated December 19.
