Open to all passengers around the clock, the quiet room is a space where one can relax, calm down, meditate, pray and enjoy the quiet before their flight, regardless of their religion or religious beliefs.
"The quiet room that was opened in the Non-Schengen area of the airport in January 2023 has been a welcome addition and received good feedback from both passengers and airport employees. The new quiet space that has now been opened is a concrete example of how we develop the airport based on the needs and wishes of passengers," says Hanna Hämäläinen, Finavia’s Head of Passenger Experience Development at Helsinki Airport.
Experiences of and lessons learned from different quiet spaces in Finland and abroad have been utilised in the planning of the spaces. The result is a bright and spacious room that offers a calm space to stop for a while. The new quiet room was implemented in cooperation with the Parish Union of Vantaa.
"The feedback on the silent room that was opened in 2023 has been exceptionally positive. The space has been warmly welcomed, especially by representatives of religions for whom daily prayers are an important part of everyday life. For this reason, I am particularly happy that a similar space is now also available in the Schengen area of the airport," says Airport Chaplain Hanna Similä.
"The new quiet room enables, for example, wedding ceremonies for passengers departing from the Schengen area, praying in a separate space reserved for it and relaxation before the flight – even when the passenger feels nervous about flying. When planning the new space, we utilised all of the thorough work we had done for the previously opened quiet room," says Similä.
In addition to the quiet room, passengers will get access to four working spaces for free without pre-booking in December. These spaces offer an opportunity to focus on work or relax for a moment in the airport environment.
