If a passenger needs an assistance service when arriving at the airport, it is recommended to notify the airline or tour operator before travelling. The assistance service point is located at the main entrance in the airport's departures hall. The assistance service is available around the clock and is free of charge.
When arriving at the airport, you can contact the assistance service from either the ten call points or the service point in the departures hall. If a passenger needs assistance with their mobility, the assistance service personnel will be there to help them all the way to the aircraft. Read more about the assistance service.
Departure: check-in, security control and gate area
There are check-in counters for passengers with special needs in the departures hall at Helsinki Airport. Security control has a separate line with improved accessibility, as well.
The airport's wheelchairs can be freely borrowed for moving in the terminal. If the passenger has their own mobility aid, it can usually be used the entire way to the aircraft. This does not apply to heavy electronic aids, which the passenger may have to leave behind at check-in. More information about these can be obtained from the airline.
In principle, the departure gate area is spacious and easy to move around with aids. The assistance service personnel will help passengers with getting around as needed. The airport has approximately 40 accessible toilets, which are described on Finavia’s website, some with photographs.

Returning from a trip: arriving at the airport after a flight
If a passenger needs help disembarking from the aircraft, airport assistance service personnel will pick up the passenger from the flight and assist with travel at the airport for as long as necessary. If the passenger has a mobility aid, it will be brought to the departure gate or the baggage claim hall, if possible. Wheelchairs at the airport are also free to borrow.
In the baggage claim hall, the airport's information screen shows which conveyor belt the passenger's items and any possible aids will arrive on. The airport personnel and the arrival service will be on site to help if necessary.
