During the winter season, there will be scheduled flights to 102 international airports on 163 different routes from Finavia airports. The largest growth will be seen at the tourism-driven Lapland airports, for which 11 new flight connections have been negotiated. The global air traffic winter season began on 26 October 2025 and will end on 28 March 2026.

"Of all Finavia airports, the largest growth in passenger volumes will be seen in Rovaniemi this winter. Leisure travel in Europe continues to grow, which is reflected in the strong demand for direct international scheduled flights. Growth at Helsinki Airport will be moderate during the winter season," says Petri Vuori, Finavia’s Senior Vice President responsible for route development.

During the 2025–2026 winter season, Finavia's airports will offer 13 new scheduled flight connections to destinations in different parts of Europe. Scheduled flights will be operated from Finavia airports to a total of 95 different foreign cities and 102 different airports. There will also be 16 scheduled flights within Finland.

“Finavia cooperates closely with airlines and regional partners to ensure extensive flight connections and Finland's good air connectivity. At Finavia, we have prepared for the start of the winter season well in advance. At airports where winter tourism is busy, we have recruited seasonal employees who will double the number of employees in winter maintenance and customer service," says Vuori.

A busy winter season at Lapland airports

A total of 75 scheduled flight connections will be operated to Lapland airports in Ivalo, Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Kuusamo and Kemi-Tornio during the winter season, including the domestic Helsinki route. The most direct scheduled flights in Lapland are to Rovaniemi (46), Kittilä Airport (15) and Ivalo Airport (9). In addition to scheduled flights, many international charter flights will also be operated during the winter season.

Direct scheduled flight connections from Amsterdam (KLM), Copenhagen (SAS) and Berlin (Eurowings) will start at Kittilä Airport.

At Lapland airports, Finnair, Ryanair and Easyjet will increase their offering the most, of which domestic carrier Finnair will continue to bring the most passengers to Lapland airports.

Rovaniemi Airport ready for new records

Flights will be operated to Rovaniemi Airport from 38 international airports during the winter season.

"Records have been broken year after year at Rovaniemi Airport. The passenger volumes at the airport will also increase this winter, and it looks like the historical milestone of one million annual passengers will be surpassed at Rovaniemi Airport by Christmas," says Vuori.

Eight new scheduled flight connections will be celebrated at Rovaniemi Airport this winter. Ryanair will significantly expand its offering at Rovaniemi Airport by operating flights to Rovaniemi from four new destinations during the winter season: Birmingham, Bristol and Manchester in England, and Shannon in Ireland. In addition, scheduled flight connections to Rovaniemi will start from the following airports: Barcelona (Norwegian), Belfast (Easyjet), London-Southend (Easyjet) and Warsaw (LOT).

Finnair and Norwegian will operate flights between Rovaniemi and Helsinki Airport. During the busiest days of the season, Norwegian will operate flights up to two or three times per day and Finnair will operate flights up to more than ten times per day.

Finavia has expanded the passenger facilities of Rovaniemi Airport to develop the customer experience of passengers. The expansion of the departures hall of Rovaniemi Airport’s terminal will be opened at the beginning of the winter season. With the new expansion, the airport’s passenger facilities in the departures hall will increase by nearly one thousand square metres.

Airlines increase their offering on selected routes

Passenger volumes are also growing at Helsinki Airport. At Helsinki Airport, the airlines Finnair, SAS and KLM have increased their offering the most.

Turku Airport will celebrate two new route openings as the airline Wizz Air will start operating flights between Turku and Bucharest and between Turku and Vilnius. For the first time, SAS will continue its scheduled flight connection between Copenhagen and Turku during the winter season.

Discover will return to its Oulu-Frankfurt route at Oulu Airport in January 2026.
