Finavia is expanding the safety zones of runways and partially renovating the runway lighting at Pori Airport in the summer of 2026. The work is part of the normal life cycle management of the airport's infrastructure and has no impact on commercial scheduled traffic.

Finavia maintains the infrastructure of its 19 regional airports and implements the life cycle management that is important for the airport’s operations annually at several of its airports. The maintenance and costs of the airport’s critical infrastructure are strongly influenced by the international and national regulations of the aviation industry that Finavia complies with.

”The summer renovations will ensure that the safety areas near the runways of Pori Airport will continue to comply with regulations in the future. The work is scheduled for the weeks when there is a break in the state’s purchased traffic. This ensures that the renovations do not cause a break in scheduled traffic,” says Niko Syrjä, Finavia’s Airport Manager of Pori Airport.

The work at Pori Airport will begin on 6 July 2026 and will be completed at the beginning of August. In addition to the extension of the safety zones at both ends of the runway, the runway lighting cables of the 2,350-metre-long northeast side of the main runway, as well as stormwater drains and sewers, will be replaced.

Budapest Aircraft Service, which acts as a service provider for the state’s purchased traffic, operates scheduled traffic to Pori Airport. There are ten flights a week from Pori Airport to Helsinki Airport. Some of the other aviation companies operating at the airport will operate from other airports during the renovation.
