“Oulu Airport has managed to make its operations significantly more efficient and improve its financial indicators even though the passenger volume in domestic traffic has been challenging. Thanks to determined management, cost efficiency and customer service have improved significantly and staff are committed and motivated. This has also been seen in an increase in customer satisfaction,” says Kari Savolainen, CEO of Finavia.
“Oulu Airport is the second busiest airport in Finland. Finavia has made large investments in Oulu Airport in the 2000s both financially and operationally, which have enabled the development of traffic in Oulu. We cooperate extensively with the sub-region to improve conditions for air traffic, since a well-functioning airport and good connections are important for the business community in the region,” says Savolainen.
With its current capacity, Oulu Airport is able to serve up to 1.5 million passengers. During the renovation project, terminal facilities have been expanded, check-in and security checks have been made to run smoother and travelling comfort has been increased while bringing new services to passengers. The airport now has its own pharmacy and the aim is to continue developing commercial services further based on customer feedback.
The Airport of the Year is now in its 24th year, the first time the selection was made in 1990.
Oulu Airport was taken in use in 1953 and in 2013, about 877,000 passengers passed through it. Traffic at the airport has been increasing fast in the first part of the year (January–April +16%) The director of the airport is Liisa Sallinen.
In addition to the Oulu Airport, Finavia's airport network comprises 24 airports.
