Public transport entrepreneur Pahkakankaan Liikenne Ky will launch an on-demand bus service from Seinäjoki travel centre to Vaasa Airport at the beginning of 2016. Finavia considers the new service to improve the travel chain in a large area as the comprehensive flight connections of Vaasa Airport will have an even better reach.

The comprehensive flight connections of Vaasa are now also more extensively available for the companies and households of the Seinäjoki region.

The service will be provided on the basis of orders, for every departing or arriving flight. Pahkakankaan Liikenne Ky is the operator of the call route traffic.

- The on-demand bus service substantially improves the travel chain and is also a totally new operating method in the Seinäjoki and Vaasa region, says Petri Lampi, Vaasa Airport manager, Finavia.

Over 130 charter flights per year

In addition to route flights, there will be two weekly charter flights from Vaasa to the Canary Islands and two or three weekly flights to Turkey in the spring. Occasional flights will also be provided to Chaniá, Rhodos, Mallorca, and, as a new destination, to Zadar in Croatia.

- The total number of charter flights in 2015 was 135. Vaasa is becoming increasingly popular among holiday travellers, Lampi says.

There are several daily scheduled flights from Vaasa to Helsinki and Stockholm.

Every year, about 300,000 passengers go on a flight from Vaasa. About 40% of them fly abroad.
