The carrier Norwegian has listed its most popular midsummer destinations for flights from Helsinki and asked Charlotte Holmbergh Jacobsson, Norwegian’s Communications Manager, for the best holiday tips.

The most popular destination for passengers travelling from Helsinki Airport this summer is Rome, Italy, followed by Malaga, Madrid and Barcelona in Spain. The fifth most popular destinations are the Greek islands of Corfu, Rhodes and Crete.

“Rome’s popularity is not surprising. Although you must not forget to mention the historical sites, such as the Colosseum or the Spanish Steps, the city also has a lot of other things to offer. Good food and Rome belong in the same sentence. Rome is also an excellent city especially for fashion-mad shoppers. Moreover, many travel to Rome for their honeymoon—Rome is, after all, considered one of the most romantic cities in the world,” says Charlotte Holmbergh Jacobsson. In February, Norwegian opened its own base in Rome.

Experience Spain

During the last year, Norwegian has started to operate Spanish domestic flights.

“The various parts of Spain have very different characters, and the difference is particularly clear between mainland Spain and the islands. If you want to experience both, you can easily combine a city break in Madrid or Barcelona with a relaxed beach holiday in Mallorca. You can choose Norwegian for all of your flights—first a flight from Helsinki to Barcelona or Madrid and from there on a domestic flight to Mallorca and then a direct flight back to Helsinki, or the other way around,” says Holmbergh Jacobsson.

Norwegian operates four weekly direct flights between Palma de Mallorca and Helsinki, three weekly flights between Helsinki and Madrid and daily flights between Barcelona, Madrid and Palma de Mallorca as well as between Helsinki and Barcelona.

Malaga is also a popular destination for flights from Helsinki all year round.

“Malaga is an excellent base to use for driving around the Costa del Sol and for visiting Gibraltar or the national parks in the region. The most enthusiastic road-trippers drive all the way to the coast of the Algarve in southern Portugal,” says Holmbergh Jacobsson.

Greece is ideal for a family holiday

Greece is the number one summer destination for Finns. Norwegian operates flights to several destinations in Greece from Helsinki. This summer, the most popular Greek destinations for Norwegian are the Mediterranean islands of Corfu, Rhodes and Crete.

“The clean beaches and crystal-clear waters of Greece attract families with children. For those who want to do more than just relax on the beach, all three islands offer ideal surroundings for a more active type of holiday, with opportunities for water sports and hiking. Each island offers dozens of hiking routes,” says Holmbergh Jacobsson.

The next on the list after the five most popular destinations for flights from Helsinki Airport are Venice, London, Alicante, Palma de Mallorca and Prague. For its European flights, Norwegian uses Boeing 737-800 planes, which have free Wi-Fi for passengers to use while on board.
