The narrow-body, twin-engine jet airliner carries 100 passengers and is used for flights of up to three hours. Ever wonder how a relatively small plane has ample cabin space? Read on and find out.

The Embraer 190 is a narrow-body, twin-engine jet airliner manufactured by Embraer. Headquartered in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, the Brazilian aerospace company is the third-largest airplane maker after Airbus and Boeing.

Formerly known as Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica, Embraer was founded in 1969.

1. Launched at the Paris Air Show in 1999, and entering production in 2002, the company’s E aircraft series has been commercially successful because of its safety and efficiency. The wings of the Embraer 190, for instance, are fitted with winglets that reduce drag and provide increased lift. The aircraft exceeds the noise and emission-related requirements prescribed by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

2. The first flight of the E190 was in March 2004. New York-based low-cost carrier JetBlue was the launch customer, taking its first delivery in 2005.

3. Wonder how the 100-seat E190 is able to provide passengers with ample cabin space and easy access to overhead lockers? There are no middle seats. Everyone sits by a window or on the aisle.

4. Thanks to four main cabin doors and two easily accessible cargo holds, Embraer E-Jets such as the 190 can turn around in as short as 15 minutes. Less time on the ground means greater productivity and higher daily utilization, which helps keep operational costs low.

5. A list of carriers at Helsinki Airport operate Embraer 190s as part of their respective fleets. These are Finnair, Bulgaria Air, Arkia Israel Airlines and Ukraine International Airlines.
