The German family-owned logistics company Dachser has written a letter of intent with the Finnish airport company Finavia to open a new logistics center at Tampere-Pirkkala Airport.

Dachser is expanding in Finland. The new branch will be located at the Tampere-Pirkkala Airport and its operations are expected to start in the summer of 2024.

“We are delighted to have a partnership with Dachser, as it strengthens the competitiveness of the Tampere region and, at the same time, Finland as a whole. It is important for Finavia that the agreement solidifies the already central role of Tampere-Pirkkala Airport. In addition to the current three strategic pillars – international passenger traffic, flight training and military traffic – Tampere-Pirkkala Airport can be developed as an air freight hub,” says the airport company Finavia’s CEO Kimmo Mäki.

“We see that the expansion to Pirkkala and the Tampere economic zone, which is known for its attractiveness, is a natural extension of our growth story in Finland that started in 2014. Our investment in Tampere-Pirkkala airport creates a unique direct connection to the companies in the region and further improves the competitiveness of the region,” says Tuomas Leimio, Managing Director, Dachser Finland European Logistics.

The new premises cover approximately 5,000 m2 and will serve as a central hub for Dachser Finland. The direct and indirect employment impact of the Tampere-Pirkkala branch is estimated to affect approximately 50-70 people at the beginning and approximately 100-200 people after full production.
