Helsinki Airport has been part of Finnish stories since 1952. Now the most extensive development programme in the airport’s history has been completed, and the revamped Helsinki Airport is still a stage for new beginnings, where people, ideas and cultures come together for a moment – just to continue down their own paths again.

“Finavia has successfully completed Helsinki Airport’s 10-year development programme in the autumn of 2023, and the airport is ready for life-changing stories. Now we want to tell people about the new airport and its services through three Finnish success stories that started at the airport,” says Anna Tuomi, Finavia’s Head of Marketing.

The stories will be told through a campaign that is going to be launched in October 2023. For the campaign, Finavia has selected three well-known Finns who have started a new chapter in their lives at Helsinki Airport and have each found their own direction and place in the world in their own way.

During the autumn, their stories will be told in pictures and videos on the front page of Helsingin Sanomat, in the city centre of Helsinki, in the channels of Helsinki Airport and on Finavia’s website.

The campaign participants are:

  • basketball player Awak Kuier, who is the first Finnish woman to play in the WNBA, the highest level of women’s basketball in the US,
  • fashion designer Rolf Ekroth, who has successfully exported Finnish craftsmanship and design, and
  • Pekka Niemi, an artist working under the name ONEVIOLIN, who is gaining popularity internationally.

Everyone can share their own story

“We also want to give everyone the opportunity to tell their own travel story. There are countless stories that have changed lives, and we are now encouraging people to share theirs,” Anna Tuomi says.

You can take part in the campaign by posting a photo on Instagram with a caption explaining how your trip was a turning point for you. Use the hashtag #myhelsinkiairport and tag @helsinkiairport or @finaviaofficial in the photo. Learn more on Finavia’s campaign website (In Finnish).
