When Petra Koskinen joined Finavia in 2023, she was immediately included in a major HR system project. This was a good fit for the Bachelor of Business Administration, whose studies had emphasised HR administration topics as well as the perspectives of project management and business development.
At Finavia, renewal and continuous learning are considered important, and many different development projects are underway across the organisation.
”In HR, we actively aim to make our processes smoother and find new ways of working. My work lays the foundation for us to provide all of our personnel with even better conditions for success,” she says, smiling.
Koskinen actively follows the development of technology and acquires new skills independently. For example, the possibilities of Microsoft Copilot and other tools using artificial intelligence are part of continuous learning. For Koskinen, artificial intelligence is helpful in the preparation of presentation materials and instructions, as well as in sparring ideas and creating content.
Artificial intelligence challenges to learn new things
One of Petra Koskinen’s recent projects is the AI-based HR-Bot, which answers common HR-related questions quickly and easily. The tool is intended for all of the personnel and it has been developed together with the users. Supervisors and a few employees from different units have participated in the pilot. This makes it possible to receive experiences and feedback on the solution from different perspectives.
”We are a diverse workplace community, and our employees work in very different positions. A solution that works smoothly on an expert’s desk does not necessarily serve in the same way in operational work at the airport.”
According to Koskinen, technology and particularly artificial intelligence challenge everyone to continuously learn new things. And it’s not just about new technologies, it’s about a new way of working.
”Tools are evolving quickly, and new solutions must be tried out boldly. At the same time, we must learn to critically evaluate the information they produce. The information generated by artificial intelligence must always be checked, and it cannot be used as a substitute for decision-making. In HR, data protection, confidentiality and ethical perspectives are particularly important.”
A unique industry that constantly offers something new
The airport environment was new to Petra Koskinen when she joined Finavia. Since then, the special nature of the industry and the range of expertise have become concrete in many ways.
”Finavia has the kind of expertise that you can't find elsewhere. Finavia employs a wide range of professionals, and I have had the opportunity to work with them in various ways.”
Koskinen considers the cooperation with experts in different fields to be one of the best aspects of her work. The opportunity to participate in various projects and continuously learn new things has increased her job satisfaction.
”The personnel are really committed, and here people value both their own expertise and that of others. In the workplace community, people work together and towards a common goal,” she says.
