Please check these guidelines if you are going to Lapland to ski during your winter break.

Even though the COVID-19 pandemic has reduced the number of passengers at Helsinki Airport, we recommend arriving at the airport well in advance during the winter holiday season so that you can have a hassle-free start to your holiday. Leave enough time so that you can deal with parking, bag drop, check-in and security control and do some shopping and eating at the airport without needing to rush.

If you are travelling with children or special baggage – such as alpine skis, cross-country skiing equipment or a snowboard – it is a good idea to take a look at the packing instructions beforehand so that there will not be any surprises at the airport.

You can easily check when the airport’s services and restaurants are open on the Opening hours of restaurants and services at airports page. Opening hours vary due to the current situation.

Please remember to wear a face mask, maintain a safe distance from others and follow good hygiene while at the airport.

Flying to ski on Lapland’s powder snow

If you are heading for the snowy slopes of the north, please check the packing instructions for alpine skis and cross-country skiing equipment well in advance from the checklist on the Finavia website.

Before leaving for your trip, please check with your airline that your skis and other skiing equipment will fit in the aircraft. The smallest aircraft types used for domestic flights may not always have enough room in the hold for special baggage.

Checked or hand baggage?

If you are not sure where to pack your baggage, you can check the answer on Finavia’s How to pack for your flight pages. There you can also find the security control rules for electronics, cosmetics, food and alcohol as well as other important information.

Travelling with children?

You can find advice for travelling with children on Finavia’s Little Airport pages, where you can find instructions on, for example, what to do with pushchairs and prams at the airport.

Aava’s travel clinic provides treatment in the gate area

Aava Medical Centre also serves domestic passengers. Aava’s travel clinic at Helsinki Airport’s gate 26 provides quick treatment for common complaints such as migraine, an upset stomach, earache and allergic reactions. COVID-19 testing is also part of the clinic’s services. The airport also has a pharmacy at gate 29 and arrivals hall 2A.

Air travel during the COVID-19 pandemic

We have compiled the most frequently asked questions on our Air travel during COVID-19 page. There you can find answers to questions about what should be taken into account before going to the airport, at the airport and when returning to Finland.
